Morning my crafting friends, hope this finds you all safe and well? We had our first dowsing of snow yesterday, only a slight covering, hopefully that will be all we get lol!
Today's post is a card I have made for my son Jonathon who is 27 TODAY, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY SON!
I knew I was going to do a card with the Phoenix on as he loves the Phoenix but after having had some play with some paste I decided to go a step further. I decided to paint & paste onto a thin canvas board and attach this to the front of the card so it was something I could frame for him later. I was originally going to frame the canvas so he had something to open (as he has had money) and make him another card but then decided to turn this into his card. I also wanted to use gilding flakes for the Phoenix but was not sure how they would work over the paste, well I needn't have worried lol!
I painted the canvas with Acrylic paints using a flat brush to get some dimension/pattern into the background. I used a Blue & Green and just kept mixing the colours together and painting them on until I was happy with the result and left to dry.
Using the Phoenix Stencil I taped it over the canvas and spread the modelling paste over the top making sure it was completely covered. I took the stencil off and placed it in warm water immediately then left the canvas to dry over night.
I gently spread Flake & Glitter Glue over the Phoenix and left it for a couple of hours before putting on the Red Flame gilding flakes, there were a few paste lines showing in between wings and tail feathers so I just painted them in with Red paint. I left the claws and painted them Black afterwards. I was happy with the result but then I wanted to put some flames underneath the Phoenix! I got my flame stamps and stamped them using Fired Brick Distress Ink, this did not show up to well on the canvas so I mixed together two embossing powders (Red Flame & Yellow Lustre), inked the flames over again with my versamark ink pad and heat embossed using the mixed powders, I have to say I was pleased with how the flames looked but disappointed the Yellow did not show up as I was hoping for a more realistic flames!!! I decided to leave the canvas as that.
I got some patterned papers and distressed the edges using large scissors then inked round the edge with Fired Brick and Black Soot, squashed the edges in a bit and matted these onto some Teal card, I then attached my canvas in the center. No sentiment for this as I felt it would ruin the canvas! To finish it off I added a Black gem for the Phoenix eye.
